Dear Loyal Bravo Customer,

We have been notified by the Colorado State Department of Agriculture that a 2 lb. chub of our Bravo Chicken Blend tested positive for the possible presence of Salmonella. In cooperation with the FDA, we have decided to voluntarily recall a select lot of this product.  As an extra safety measure, we are also recalling three other products made on the same day.  We are recalling these additional products because have a responsibility to the pet parents who put their trust in Bravo to do the right thing, even if it hurts us in the court of public opinion.

The number of cases involved in the recall is minimal and the likelihood of your having affected product at home is highly unlikely, as this product was made and sold in November of 2014, prior to the significant changes and improvements we have made to our safety program.  This recall is in response to the FDA’s Zero Tolerance Policy to pathogens innately found in raw foods. We agree with FDA on the need to protect every aspect of the food supply and have worked very hard to eliminate pathogens.

On a positive note, there have been no reported pet or human illnesses associated with this recall and all of the products tested negative for the presence of Salmonella by an independent third party lab prior to distribution.

There is no denying we have had several recalls in recent years and each one has caused us to seriously rethink and improve our safety program. Last year, we introduced the use of bacteriophages(“phages”) into our process (you can learn about phages at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFoo1OVa11E ). We found this new method by researching how the pathogen problem was being successfully addressed elsewhere around the world.  As far as we know, we are the only domestic manufacturer of pet food using this proven new technology as an added safety step.

Next, we made what was perhaps the toughest decision, that was to use high pressure processing (HPP) as an added safety measure. While this is an all natural, “no chemicals involved” process, our roots go back to pet foods made with minimal ingredients and processing. However, at the end of the day, our first responsibility is to the health and safety of the pets and families we serve. So we began using HPP on July 20 of this year for our fresh-frozen raw and other products.  HPP is a USDA and FDA approved process which allows us to achieve a finished product that is as close as possible to our original formula.

Today, we believe we have one of the best safety programs in the industry. We must in order to keep your trust. We will continue to do everything possible to protect the quality, integrity and safety of our foods and treats.

Finally, we’d like to extend our sincerest apologies. We truly appreciate your support. Please feel free to contact us at info@bravorawdiet.com or call us directly at 866-922-9222 (8 am to 4 pm - EST) to talk to a Bravo Associate about any concerns or questions you may have.
